This Rising Native American Gospel & Country Recording Artist Marlena Begay was born in Tuba City, Arizona of December 1984. She was raised in Flagstaff , Arizona with seven brothers and three sisters. She is the "Miracle Baby" for her parents. Doctors tried to convince Ella to have an abortion with Marlena, only because it threatened her life to have another child. She refused to do so and gave birth to her last child. Today, she is seventeen years old, sharing her talents with everyone and still growing stronger with it. Marlena's talent was dicovered by her family one day on a road trip they took to meet up with her sister inNeveda. At the astonishment of her talent she sang "Kentucky Moon" for her parents, sister and brother-in-law. She entered in a school talent show at the Christensen Elementary, she put in a lot of time and effort in getting the song down in her mind. She amazed her teachers and fellow students. A majority of the audience stated she would make it one day with her voice. Marlena was entered in a contest in Nashville, Tennessee in 1998. Marlena did a demo of three songs and a video that was aired on local television within a seventy-five mile radius of Nashville. Viewers casted their votes, Marlena's video proved to have had one of the highest ratings. She was instructed to return to record an album; due to her financial situation, it kept her from making the trip. In 2000, Marlena went into the studio to make an album, she recorded cover songs that were already airplayed. She released the "Don't Worry"album in the fall of 2000. On this album she has a mixture of three gospel songs and seven country songs. This helped her bookings for various venues. Performing in various venues such as weddings, graduations, banquets and church gatherings; she enjoys each invitations. Marlena also received numerous awards and certificates for most of her performances. On May 20th 2001, was a very exciting day for Marlena. She had been contacted to open the Show for Mainstream Country Star Billy Ray Cyrus in Tuba City, Arizona. Marlena was overwhelmed with joy to have the opportunity to open for a big star like Billy Ray Cyrus. It was a wonderful experience for her to take another step closer to stardom. The crowd greeted her with open arms, and she was deeply moved to see fans come to her for pictures and autographs. Marlena is a sophmore in High School and resides in Aztec, New Mexico. She finds that it's a struggle for her realizing hard work comes with the territory to keep up with school and performing in different venues throughout the United States. Marlena is very thankful for the guidance from her heavenly father, and with him in her life, she is well on her way with her career. Though you might hear of her doing country music and other style of music she is capable of performing....her number one priority is her Christian Life and Music. Believing she has been blessed with a voice to do other music she will pursue an album in country music. Marlena thanks all the evangelists, ministers and all brothers and sisters in Christ.
